Your Guide to the Best Breweries & Wineries in Salado, TX

A bottle of wine is being poured into four wine glasses.

Okay, so we’re cheating just a little. Not every location is right in Salado, but rest assured you can find all of them within a short distance. Here are a few of our favorite wineries and breweries in or near Salado:

Wineries & Breweries

Location: 7536 FM Road 2409, Temple, TX

This true-blue Texas establishment is all about their local wine. Proudly women-owned and operated, the 3 Texans Winery began in 2009 with an assortment of hand-planted vines. Four thousand of them, to be exact, and that number has continued to grow in the years since.

The ‘3 Texans’ who brought their vision to life more than a decade ago are Texas-local Kim Langston and her two daughters, Lauryn and Austen. Together with their families, they produce a variety of wines, including malbec, tempranillo, and sauvignon. Each bottle is crafted to perfection and will leave you wanting more.

Looking for a taste? Head to their newly-opened tasting room right next to the vineyards and see for yourself what 3 Texans is all about.

Barrow Brewing

Location: 108 Royal Street Salado, TX

If there’s one word that best describes
Barrow Brewing, it’s quality. Or history. Or simplicity. Or– you get the picture. There’s a lot that goes into this newly-established staple of the Salado brewing scene, and plenty of reasons why it’s become so popular since opening in 2016.

For starters, the brewery is housed in what was once an old granary. It’s been meticulously restored and updated, but the classic feel of the historic building can still be felt in every corner. Another neat fact for you: the owner used to be an airline pilot, which is where their meticulous attention to detail comes from.

Each of their classic IPAs features chuckle-worthy naming—like “Evil Catfish” and “Big Bubbly Blonde.” Despite the unique branding, the recipes are simple, tried-and-true classics that will make you appreciate each glass again and again.

Chupacabra Craft Beer

Location: 401 N. Main St. Salado, TX

If you can’t decide between a cold brew or a glass of wine, Chupacabra Craft Beer offers the best of both worlds. Featuring 60 craft beers on tap and over 400 wines from around the world, the only thing you have to worry about is trying to make up your mind.

Great drinks go well with great food, and Chupacabra has a stacked menu full of hearty American staples, from juicy steaks to crispy onion rings. The atmosphere is laid back and family-friendly, and you’ll find plenty of options for even the pickiest of younger eaters.

What else can we say? You really can’t go wrong with Chupacabra, and you’ll be missing out if you pass up this only-in-Salado stop.

Dancing Bee Winery

Location: 8060 E US HWY 190 Rogers, TX

The last, and possibly the most unique entry on our list is Dancing Bee Winery. Dancing Bee has been making honey-infused wine, or mead, since 2011, but their honey-making skills stretch back decades. It’s this unique blend of honeycraft and signature Texas wines that makes Dancing Bee so loved.

Dancing Bee has been a family-run business since G.C. “Clint”  Walker started it in 1930. Now, all these years later, Clint Walker
the third, and his wife, Janice, keep things going. The family has spent nearly a century perfecting their beekeeping business, and the honey they produce is second-to-none. With great honey comes great mead, and you’ll want to grab a bottle (or four) before you leave.
